The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has undertaken an initiative to modernize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) maps within Stephenville, Texas.  The NFIP uses maps called a Federal Insurance Rate Map (FIRM).

FIRM - the official map of a community on which FEMA has delineated both the special hazard areas and the risk premium zones applicable to the community.

Map Modernization is responding to National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements and feedback provided by Federal, State, and local Program stakeholders.  Map Modernization will make appropriate changes to determine areas with potential flooding having a 1-percent change of being equaled or exceeded in any given year.  These changes will be shown on the FIRM.

The City of Stephenville is currently in the protest period of the Map Modernization of the FIRM.  Any comments and concerns to be addressed concerning the new FIRM must be submitted before October 11, 2010.  Please submit your comments to Chad Denson at 298 W. Washington St., Stephenville, TX 76401.
